SARATOGA SPRINGS

Saratoga Springs is located just 30 minutes north of Albany and around 3 hours from New York City and Boston.

The closest train and bus station is Saratoga Station, located in downtown Saratoga Springs. Amtrak, Greyhound, and Trailways provide daily service to this station from several major cities, including NYC, Montreal, and Burlington. The Orchard Project will provide transportation from Saratoga Station.

If you are flying in, your destination will be the Albany International Airport. Saratoga is accessible from the Albany International Airport by Lyft, Uber, or Taxi. Under certain circumstances, the Orchard Project may be able to provide transportation for you from the airport. Please contact rachel@orchardproject.com to discuss further.

TRANSPORTATION/ACCOMODATION

This is mentioned on our other pages, but residents are provided with rehearsal space (from large rehearsal rooms to various writing spaces), company management, accommodation, communal dining and magnificent upstate scenery. The Orchard Project also has a world-class apprentice program, and companies are encouraged to take advantage of the great support our younger artists can provide, which ranges from dramaturgy to stage management support to extra ensemble members. Transportation and honoraria/per diems are the responsibility of the sponsoring theatre company (or artist). One of the many reason for such is that it allows the Orchard Project to host companies of very different levels.

ACCOMMODATIONS

All residents will be staying at houses located in and around Saratoga Springs, NY.  All accommodations include: private bedrooms, shared baths, communal kitchens, communal living spaces, free laundry facilities, linens (sheets) and towels provided. Each individual artist will receive a set of keys to the house where they are staying. With some exceptions, CHECK IN is after 3:00pm on the day of arrival and CHECK OUT is by 10:00am on the day of departure. If you plan to arrive before 3:00pm and need a place to store your bags, contact rachel@orchardproject.com.

We ask all artists to leave the apartments in the state you found them: clean kitchens and bathrooms, dishes washed and put away, etc. We also ask each resident to strip their bed and start linens and towels in the washing machine before departure. These small tasks allow us to accomodate a greater number of artists each summer. A $20 security deposit will be required upon check-in, and will be returned at the end of the session, so long as your room/house is left in good condition and your keys are returned.

MEALS

All residences will be stocked with breakfast foods. Boxed lunches will be delivered daily to your rehearsal space. Dinner is provided by the OP and served buffet style. Vegetarian and other dietary options (gluten-free, lactose-free, etc) are provided upon request. Requests for options based on allergies and dietary restrictions must be indicated on your registration form and submitted no less than 10 days prior to arrival.

Artists will have the oppotunity to enjoy one dinner on their own during their stay, however dinners are an integral part of the Orchard Project experience and attendance is expected of all resident artists. Every summer, some of the greatest collaboration and conversation happens over dinner, and we encourage all residents to fully take advantage of this time to meet all the other artists and apprentices. In the past, the Orchard Project has lost significant funds when teams or companies decide to skip a meal that had already been prepared and paid for. For this reason, in the rare chance a meal is missed, we have instituted a $20 per person fee for each artist who fails to show up to a scheduled dinner without at least 48 hours notice.
