The Open Door

1,700 artists applied. Not one paid a fee.

Submitting to The Orchard Project is free, and we hope it always will be. But we pay readers to read and evaluate every submission, and even have open office hours for those we cannot support. Reading every submission with care costs about $15 each. Help us keep the door open.

Why the door matters

For years, The Orchard Project has made the choice that it was an undo barrier for artists to have to pay to submit their work to us. The next great playwright or screenwriter shouldn’t need a spare $50 to be read.

This year 1,700 artists sent us their work. Every one of them gets a careful read by a paid reader.
