For the field
Programs for the people who make new work possible
Beyond our labs, The Orchard Project works with the leaders who produce, program and champion new work: producers, agents, artistic directors, board members and other leaders in theatre, TV, film and audio.
After years of working together, The Orchard Project and The Kaleel Jamison Consulting Group (KJCG) combine their expertise in the arts and in building inclusive workplaces to offer these programs, led by Frederick Miller and Dr. Kate Richmond of KJCG, the oldest organization development firm in the US, and Ari Edelson, founding Artistic Director of The Orchard Project.
Leadership Lab
A weekend-long intensive that examines how to produce, support, distribute and market new work today. It builds a community of change agents and helps diverse artistic leaders:
- create community and organizational vocabularies that enable growth, abundance and inclusion;
- gain insights and strategies for industry change; and
- develop and share individual field change strategies they can apply to their own work.
Offered on a sliding scale.
Notes 2.0
Who do you know who has actually been trained in giving notes? This two-hour session covers setting a common vocabulary, joining versus judging, self-awareness in creative feedback, and taking conscious action to include everyone.
Drawing on hard data about how to give and get notes with impact, it gives creative leaders and artists alike essential tools for the room. Available as an open session or as a custom workshop for your team or organization.
Open Process
Conversations and writing for anyone who makes work
Open Process is OP’s free series of conversations, workshops and writing for storytellers, curious practitioners and artists at every level, now including our weekly Open Process essays.
Why it matters
This work has helped OP build a shared vocabulary across staff, board and artists, and codify value commitments that let every member of our community feel visible, safe and able to contribute. Submissions grew from 766 in 2020 to 1,482 in 2021 and 1,417 in 2022. In 2021, more than 50% of OP’s lead artists were BIPOC, rising to over 65% in 2022.
