Project Description:
(**This project is currently being developed as part of the Orchard Project Greenhouse.)
A new audio musical fantasia to be staged and recorded using a binaural microphone in which, in the aftermath of an unnamed global nuclear event, an all-female and non-binary ensemble of Marie Curies journey through the remains of a Chernobyl-inspired theme park. There they encounter their personal histories in collision with: The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (1945); nuclear weapons testing (1945-1980); the Three Mile Island meltdown (1979); the Chernobyl disaster (1986); and the multiple reactor failures at Fukushima (2011). They find themselves in melting plastic versions of Poland and Paris, in a nightclub full of radioactive boars, and must confront Godzilla in his many forms. As they piece together their collective and individual identities, they try to make sense of the past that has led them here and discover what the future may hold for them--and all of us. Blasting through the shining gates of Tomorrow Land, they discover a small sliver of hope for their own tomorrows.
